Core Values & Beliefs

God has called Mt. Carmel Community Church to be a testimony for His glory by exalting His name, His Word, and His Son. This has been the mission of our church since it’s founding in 1953. We maintain a deep commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ and the inerrancy of the Scriptures. Our core values are listed below. We invite you to join us as we lift up the truth of salvation from sin through Jesus Christ and pursue lives of eternal significance for the glory of God.

God-Focused

  1. Christ-Centered (Colossians 3:1-4)
As a church family, we find both our security and identity in Jesus Christ. Therefore, we endeavor to keep our primary focus in this life upon exalting Him and living our lives to please Him.

  2. Biblically-Based (2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12; Psalms 119:89; 2 Peter 1:1-4)
Because the Bible is God’s revelation of Himself to us, it is our ultimate authority in all that we do as a local church. It is the basis of our teaching and the ultimate source book for “all things pertaining to life and godliness.”

  3. Prayer-Dependent (Hebrews 4:14-16; Matthew 7:7-11; John 16:24)
Prayer is the vehicle by which God has given us access to His throne, therefore, we stand committed to prayer as a critical component of all that we do as a local church.

  4. Grace-Dependent (Ephesians 1:7, 2:8-10; Titus 2:11-14; 2 Corinthians 12:7-10; 1 Peter 1:13-15, 4:10-11)
As Christians, we recognize that every aspect of our redemption, salvation, sanctification, perseverance, service, and glorification is completely dependent upon God’s amazing, all-sufficient grace.

Community-Focused

  1. Gospel-Driven (Romans 1:16-17; Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8)
As a church, we are committed to spread the good news that Jesus Christ was born of the virgin Mary, lived a perfect, sinless life, died on the cross to pay the debt of our sins, rose again the third day, and today lives as our Lord and Savior in heaven.

  2. Disciple-Making (Matthew 28:20; 2 Timothy 2:2; Colossians 1:27-29)
Our goal is not only to see people turn to Christ, but to teach them what it means to follow Christ. Our desire is that people grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and biblically equip them for life in a sin-cursed world.

  3. Service-Minded (John 13:12-16, 34-35; Matthew 25:34-40; James 1:27)
We seek to model Christ-like love, service, and humility among each other and not forget those whom the Lord has placed around us that are in need.

Global-Focused

(Matthew 14:14; Mark 16:15; Luke24:47; John 3:16; 20:21; Acts 1:8)

As a church family, we believe in reaching the unsaved around the world. We support foreign as well as home missionaries who proclaim the gospel and teach God’s Truth with the primary goals to plant local churches and disciple believers to further God’s kingdom for God’s glory.

 Statement of Faith

  • We believe that the Bible is the completed Word of God, verbally inspired and without error in the original manuscripts, written by godly men under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, and that it has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. (2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:21; Matthew 5:18)

  • We believe that there is one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons; that these are equal in every divine perfection, and that they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, providence, and redemption. (John 4:26, 8:51-58, 9:35-38; Ephesians 4:6; Hebrews 1:8; Acts 5:3-4; 1 John 5:7; Matthew 28:19; Luke 3:21-22; 2 Corinthians 13:14)

God the Father – He is eternal, immutable, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. He is the sovereign God of the universe, the Creator and Preserver of all things. He is perfect in holiness, righteousness, justice, wisdom and love. We believe that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ. (Exodus 20:2-3; Psalm 65:2; 139:1-24; John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Revelation 4:11)

Jesus Christ – He is the only Son of God. He is one person, with both a divine nature (He is truly God) and a human nature (He is truly man). He existed from everlasting with the Father, was born of a virgin when He took on human flesh, lived a sinless life, and gave Himself willingly on the cross for the sins of people. He arose from the tomb on the third day, ascended to the Father, and will return to earth one day as Judge and King. (John 1:1-3, 18; 5:22-23; 20:28; Romans 9:5; Hebrews 1:3,6,8; 9:24; Philippians 2:6-11; Colossians 1:15-20; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Matthew 25:31; Revelation 19:11-20:6; 1 John 2:2)

Holy Spirit – He is a divine person, equal with God the Father and God the Son, and of the same nature. He was active in creation and the inspiration of Scriptures. He bears witness to the truth of the gospel in preaching and testimony. He is the agent in the new birth by calling people to salvation through Christ and dwells in the hearts of believers. He seals, indwells, guides, teaches, witnesses, sanctifies, comforts, and helps the believer. (Genesis 1:2; John 1:3-10; 14:16,17,26; 16:8-11; Hebrews 9:14; Romans 8:9-16, 26-27)

  • We believe the Genesis account of the creation of the world as a literal, historical record of the direct acts of God, without the involvement of any evolutionary process. (Genesis 1-2; John 1:3-10; Colossians 1:16; Hebrews 11:3)

  • We believe that man was created in innocence and in the image of God. However, in Adam’s disobedience, sin entered the world and passed to all mankind destroying man’s relationship with God and resulting in death. Thus, all are sinners by nature and by choice, and therefore are under just condemnation without defense or excuse, and deserve eternal punishment in hell. (Genesis 1-3; Romans 3:10-12, 23; 5:12; 8:7-8; Ephesians 2:1-3; John 6:44; 1 John 4:19; Isaiah 64:6; Jeremiah 17:9)

  • We believe that the salvation of sinners is wholly by grace through faith alone in the shed blood of Jesus Christ, and that all who receive Him as Savior are regenerated by the Holy Spirit and become children of God. (Ephesians 2:8-9; John 1:29; 1 John 2:2; Isaiah 53:4-12)

Regeneration – When an individual responds in faith to the Gospel, repents of his sin and turns to Christ for salvation, the Holy Spirit causes a spiritual change in which he is freed from the guilt of his inherently sinful nature, and given Christ’s righteousness, and thus is born again into God’s family. Regeneration involves an illumination of the mind, a change in the will, and a renewed nature. (John 3:3-7, 16; 1:12; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 3:22-28; 1 Peter 1:23; Titus 3:5; Acts 2:38; 17:30)

Justification – This is the act of God whereby He declares the sinner to be righteous in His sight. On the basis of the work of Christ, God does not impute sin to the individual, imputing instead the righteousness of Christ. (Romans 3:22-28; 4:1-8; 5:1-2; Galatians 2:16)

Sanctification – Whereas regeneration is a one-time event in the life of the believer, sanctification is a continuing process by which God gradually transforms him into the image of Christ. This process will be completed when believers join Christ in heaven, perfected in holiness. (John 17:17; 2 Corinthians 3:18; Ephesians 5:26; 1 John 3:2; Acts 20:32)

Preservation – Since salvation is based solely upon the grace of God and not on the merit of the individual, everyone who truly accepts Christ a Savior is eternally secure in his salvation and is kept by God’s power. Scripture, however, gives a solemn warning to those who profess salvation but whose lives give no evidence of change because of the willful, continual practice of sin. (John 6:37, 39; 10:27-30; Romans 8: 38-39; 1 Peter 1:5; 2 Peter 1:10; 1 John 3:7-10; James 2:14-26)

  • We believe in the unity of all true believers in the Church which is the Body of Christ, and that all believers are added to Christ’s Church by the baptism of the Holy Spirit at the time of salvation. We believe that this Church is manifested through the local church which is an assembly of baptized believers associated together in the faith to exalt the Lord in worship, evangelize the lost through witness and edify the saints through teaching, fellowship, and service. The officers of the church are pastors and deacons, whose qualifications and duties are clearly defined in Scripture. The local church has the absolute right of self-government free from the interference of any hierarchy of individuals or organizations; that the one and only superintendent is Christ through the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ is the head and Chief Shepherd of the Church. It is scriptural for true churches to cooperate with each other in contending for the faith and for the furtherance of the gospel; that each local church is the sole judge of the measure and method of its cooperation. All matters of membership, policy, government, discipline, and benevolence the will of the local church is final. (Ephesians 3:1-6, 1:22-23; 4:11-16; 5:23-24; Colossians 1:15-20)

Ordinances – Christ instructed the church to observe two ordinances, both of which are symbolic rather than providing salvation.

Baptism – All who profess faith in Jesus Christ should be baptized by immersion in water as a symbol of the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord. (Matthew 28:19; Romans 6:3-4)

The Lord’s Supper - This memorial service is to be observed in remembrance of what Jesus Christ did for the church on the cross. The bread and juice represent the body and blood of Christ. ( Matthew 26:26-29; 1 Corinthians 10:16; 11:23-34)

  • We believe that Scripture commands God’s people to be holy and separate from all polluting influences, including sin, disobedient brethren, and false teachers.

Personal – Individual believers are the temple of the Holy Spirit and so must be pure from sin. Believers are not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers nor to be voluntarily influenced by the world. (2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1; 1 John 2:15-17; James 4:4)

Ecclesiastical – The church as a whole must separate from those who teach false doctrine and attempt to subvert the saints. (Romans 16:17; 2 Thessalonians 3:6-15; 2 John 9-11; 2 Corinthians 6:14-18)

  • We believe in that “Blessed Hope,” the personal, imminent, pretribulation and premillennial coming of the Lord Jesus Christ for His redeemed ones with His saints to establish His millennial Kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgments, the eternal salvation of the righteous, and the endless suffering of the wicked. (Titus 2:13; Matthew 25:1-13; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; I Corinthians 15:24-28; Revelation 19:11-20:15; 21-22)

God says you can be 100% sure

God wants you to know for sure that your sins are forgiven and that you will spend eternity in heaven with Him.
”I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.” (1 John 5:13)

The problem is that sin (breaking God’s law) separates us from God. We are all born sinners. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)

The penalty for sin is God’s judgment. For the wages of sin is (physical and eternal) death. (Romans 6:23a) Also, see Romans 5:12 and Revelation 20:11-15.

The payment for sin is the good news that God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

See also John 3:16. Jesus paid the penalty for our sin so we can be forgiven, rescued from God’s judgment,(Ephesians 1:7) and receive the righteousness required to live in heaven (2 Corinthians 5:21). The gospel is: Jesus died for our sins, He was buried, and He was raised again the third day in accordance with the Scriptures to be our Savior. (1 Corinthians 15:4)

The promise from God is forgiveness of all past, present and future sins, Christ’s righteousness, and eternal life for whoever calls on the name of the Lord, will be saved. (Romans 10:13) You may call/pray in faith, completely depending on Jesus and what He has done for you to save your soul. Repent/turn from your sin and ask God to help you live to honor Him. Then you can be 100% sure you are ready for eternity. (See Romans 10:9-10 and John 1:12)
